The NMR Facility maintains a simple machine shop. It consists of a mill, a lathe, a band saw, a belt sander, and various accessories for them. The machine shop is primarily for the use of NMR Facility Staff. NMR Facility USERS may use the equipment on an occasional basis subject to the following restrictions:
1) Each person must obtain approval from NMR Facility Staff. Before approval will be granted, knowledge of safety rules must be demonstrated.
2) Each user must have had some training in use of machine shop tools.
FACULTY take responsibility that they and their post-docs, graduate
students, and undergraduate students are adequately trained. Furthermore,
the Facility must have some written documentation on hand to satisfy EH&S
safety requirements, either written authorization from the faculty member
or a certificate of completion for a shop safety course given somewhere
on campus.
3) Use will be restricted to approximately 9 AM to 5 PM weekdays (i.e. when
Facility Staff are around).
Rules:
1) NEVER work alone
2) Wear safety glasses
3) Tie back long hair
4) Remove jewelry (watches, rings, etc.)
5) Clamp your work
6) Keep your hands away from moving parts
7) Clean up when done.
